It is an absolute honour to be taking part in RJ Scott's Autism Awareness blog
hop this year, along side thirty exceptional authors.
It's Autism Awareness month and if you know anything about me, you know I have a son on the Spectrum. My Little Lion Man is an absolute warrior, I mean, just look at that cute little face. He's a teenager now, but this was the face that perfectly summed him up when he was that age.
Many don't realise that people on the Spectrum often have some co-morbidities along with their ASD diagnosis. My boy, in particular, has an SPD diagnosis (Sensory Processing Disorder) and is a Type 1 Diabetic, Coupled with food issues because of his ASD, this makes things extremely challenging. Textures, smells, even the look of food has a huge impact on his ability to eat healthy.
But you know what he does like? Sauce... he cannot eat any savoury food without sauce, be it tomato, mayonnaise, hot sauce. My sauce bill is huge! It's well talked about among parents of Autistic children - chicken nuggets and tomato sauce. Weird but true.
So here's an Autism fact you may not know - Many children with autism have a reduced sensitivity to pain but may be extra sensitive to sound, touch, or other sensory stimulation—which may contribute to a reluctance to being cuddled or hugged.
In honour of this Blog Hop, I have set my book, Pencilled Hearts for FREE on Amazon 18th - 20th April. I hope you pick it up and give it a read x
Previously included in the Because He's Perfect Anthology, Pencilled Hearts contains an additional 5k content and can be read as a standalone. There are little snippets of my Little Lion Man in this book x
Ollie is five-years-old. He loves chicken nuggets, red ear defenders, and his rainbow coloured pencil case.
He loves his daddy, because his daddy is perfect.
He thinks he might love Jack too, because Jack kissed his daddy and made his daddy smile.
And Jack has a cat called Wolf.
Alcott Main is teeming with characters with a myriad of stories to tell. Pencilled Hearts is the first in this brand new mini-series from K A Sands. A short, sweet 20k read to make you smile. Suitable for 18+ only.
